Two More New Voices to Join BOD

The YBL voted in two new members at-large to its board of directors on Wednesday night. They are Marc DesRoches, who has just retired from playing after 19 seasons with the Somerville Alibrandis, and Travis Adams, a three-year veteran of the league from the Stoneham Sabers with a background in finance.

YBL vs. GDSL All-Star Game – June 29

The amateur baseball world in New England will take notice on Sunday, June 29. The All-Stars of the George Donnelly Sunset League of Newport, RI, will trek to our beloved Boston to face our Thomas A. Yawkey Baseball League All-Stars at Jim Rice Field. Gametime is set for 3:00.

We are very proud to host this event at Jim Rice Field in the South End of Boston.  The City of Boston in cooperation with the Yawkey Trust and the Red Sox Foundation put many dollars into a rehab of this inner-city baseball facility this past off-season.

We want to thank Mayor Marty Walsh and his administration for making our league welcome!

Admission will be free for this nine-inning contest. This is the first-ever encounter between these historic amateur baseball programs. A concession stand and rest facilities are available at the complex. Some fans may wish to bring lounge chairs to sit along the sidelines.
Rosters for both squads are being assembled.  This promises to be an exciting afternoon showcasing some of the best amateur baseball talent in New England. We urge local youth leagues to come by and be a part of local baseball history.

The Somerville Alibrandis announced yesterday that RHP Lamarre Rey has been signed by the Frontier Greys of the Frontier League. In 2013 YBL action, between regular- and post-season play, he pitched 52.2 innings without surrendering an earned run. In the first round of last year’s playoffs, he hurled a no-hitter against the Maddogs. The Greys will open their season on 5/16.

WCVB News Feature on YBL Pitcher Jeff Allison

Image

Here is a WCVB News feature on YBL pitcher Jeff Allison, a former first round draft pick out of Peabody High School by the Florida Marlins. This is the latest installment in his incredible story of addiction and redemption, which has drawn widespread coverage over the past couple years from the likes of Peter Gammons and many others. For the past two seasons, Allison has been a member of the now-defunct Malden Bulldogs. The league looks forward to seeing him in a new YBL jersey for 2014 (though our hitters may find this a dubious hope).
