YBL to honor Mr. Al Thomas

The YBL Board of Directors would like to forgo the weekly player profile this week so that we can honor one of the greatest sponsors the Yawkey League has ever seen, the late Mr. Al Thomas.  Mr. Thomas has meant so much to the Al Thomas Athletics and the Yawkey League for so many years that a ceremony will be held in his honor this Sunday, June 26th at Cunningham Field in Milton, MA.

As a tribute to Mr. Thomas and all that he has meant to the franchise and league two benches will be dedicated in his memory.  The ceremony will begin at 1:20pm followed by a Yawkey League game between the newest franchise, the Charlestown Townies and Al’s beloved and undefeated Athletics.

All families and friends of the YBL are invited to take part in this special dedication.

Player Profile: Alex Wong (Revere Rockies #5)

wong profile pic

In three years as a member of the Rockies, Alex has become an integral member of the ball club via his ability to provide an offensive spark as well as shut down an opponent on the mound.  A .341 hitter over that time, his 46 RBIs and 22 Stolen Bases would stand to be even better except that he takes every 5th day off at the plate.  And for good reason; his 9 wins and 1.63 ERA in 90 innings over that same time are an equally important part of Revere’s success. Alex has already started off the 2016 campaign with a win on the mound over the Saints in the season opener, promptly followed by a 2-HR game against the Dodgers the following day. Meet Alex, the Bartolo Colon of the Yawkey Baseball League…..
