Franchise of the Year
East Boston Expos
The 2020 Franchise of the Year is the East Boston Expos. While the Expos were a new franchise in 2020, the core of the team was formed by players from the East Boston Knights. The Expos would go undefeated during the regular season. They started the playoffs by sweeping the Brighton Black Sox in the semi-finals. The Expos won the 2020 YBL championship by defeating the Charlestown Townies 3-2 in a five game series.
On October 30, the members of the Yawkey League voted to approve the franchise application of the Dorchester Black Barons. The Black Barons franchise will be based out of Boston and begin play in 2021.
The Black Barons are led by franchise holder and manager Aaron Barnes. Barnes comes to the league with many years of coaching experience that includes time with Upper Roxbury Lower Dorchester Little League, South End Baseball, The BASE, RBI Boston and The Dugout. Assisting Aaron Barnes will be Joe Cordero Serrano, Jay Villanueva, Juan Subervi and Bianca Yurnet.
The Black Barons name pays tribute to the Birmingham Black Barons of the Negro Leagues. Choosing a name that honors the Negro leagues was significant to the franchise given this it the 100 year anniversary of the Negro Leagues.
Congratulations to Aaron Barnes and the Black Barons franchise. Welcome to the Yawkey League and good luck in 2021.
