2021 Gold Glove Awards

The Yawkey League is proud to announce the winners of its 2021 Gold Glove Awards.

The winners include seven first time winners four of which are rookies. For Brett Julian this is his second consecutive Gold Glove for Shortstop. Cole Whitehouse previously won the Gold Glove for Catcher in the 2019.

2021 All Rookie Team

With the 2021 season successfully behind us, it is now time to reflect back on the accomplishments of the season. The Yawkey League will be making a series of announcements in the upcoming week to announce the winners of its yearly awards. The awards will be presented at an upcoming ceremony. The details of which will be announced soon.

The first awards announcement is the 2021 All-Rookie Team. The All-Rookie Team consists of one rookie from each team. The players on the All-Rookie Team represent each team’s nominee for Rookie of the Year. The Rookie of the Year winner will be announced later in the week.

Every season introduces a new group of players to the league. These rookies come to the league with various levels of playing experience. While some players come to league straight from high school, most are current or former college players.

Players on the 2021 All-Rookie Team are current or former players from Assumption, MIT, Emerson, Quinnipiac and Wentworth.

Al Thomas captures championship


The Al Thomas Athletics swept the Brighton Black Sox to capture the the 2021 YBL Championship.

Ryan Obin was named the Playoff MVP. Obin was 2-0 with a save in the finals. Obin also won 2 games in the semifinals against East Boston.

Congratulations to Joe O’Hara and the entire Al Thomas organization on a well played finals.

YBL Championship Begins

The 2021 YBL Finals are now set as Al Thomas A’s will take on the Brighton Black Sox. Game 1 is set for Tuesday 8/17 at Monan Park at BC High. First pitch is scheduled for 7:45pm.

After receiving a first round bye, the #1 seeded Al Thomas A’s defeated the East Boston Expos 3 games to 2 in their best of five semifinal matchup. Al Thomas took a 2-0 lead in the series. East Boston battled back to tie the series at 2 to forcing the deciding game 5. Al Thomas would clinch the series by defeating East Boston 9-1.

The #2 seed Black Sox also received a first round bye. The Black Sox then matched up with the Stoneham Sabers in their best of five semifinal round. All five games would be needed to decide the series. The Black Sox took Games 1 and 3 with Stoneham taking Games 2 and 4. In Game 5, the teams would trade leads, with the Black Sox holding on by a score of 9-8 to advance to the finals.

Game 2 of the best of seven series is scheduled for Wednesday 8/18 at Monan Park at BC High. Full schedule and details can be found here.

Play Ball

The YBL is set to begin its 2021 season next week. The McKay Club and Al Thomas are scheduled to kick off the season on Sunday May 16 at Cunningham Park in Milton.
